About Us

Grassroots Left has come together to rebuild Your Party into a mass democratic, socialist organisation led by its members and rooted in the working class.

We were formed through a democratic process, bringing together a broad and diverse range of left organisations, networks and caucuses from across the party. Participating groups sent delegates to discuss and agree on a shared political platform, collectively debate priorities, and democratically nominate and elect our candidates.

We come from different political traditions and do not always agree on everything. We see this diversity as a strength, because political differences are not a problem when they are addressed through comradely debate, democratic discussion and collective decision-making. We believe in pluralism and that means we are opposed to all witch-hunts, that are the politics of the Labour right. We must unite the left, not divide it.

Grassroots Left is committed to building a fighting socialist party. We are campaigning for maximum member democracy at every level: a Central Executive fully accountable to members, immediate recognition of local branches with full access to data and resources, and transparent decision-making that treats members as the driving force of the party, not an inconvenience to be managed. We believe democracy is not a procedural add-on, but the essential condition for a living, effective socialist movement.

Our politics are rooted in the labour movement, community organising, and collective struggle. We are trade unionists, tenants’ organisers, anti-racist campaigners, and socialists who understand that the struggle against capitalism, the fight against imperialism and Zionism, and the fight for liberation from all forms of oppression are inseparable. We know that a party that does not trust its members cannot transform society.

We are committed to ensuring that elected representatives remain accountable to the membership. All elected members of our slate will meet regularly with organised sections, caucuses, and affiliated groups to report on their work, receive feedback, and collectively discuss the way forward. Where disagreements arise, they will be addressed openly and democratically, strengthening political clarity, trust, and unity, rather than concentrating authority behind closed doors.

Grassroots Left is not a brand or a clique. It is a movement to rebuild the party from the bottom up, to restore political confidence to the membership, and to create an organisation capable of fighting austerity, racism, exploitation, and fascism.

Socialism demands democracy. The Grassroots Left is organising to deliver it.
